Animas Surgical Hospital is expanding its services with a new ambulatory surgery center. The Animas Surgery Center at Escalante (ASCE) will be located on the first floor of the Rocket Medical Plaza Building at 1266 Escalante Drive in Durango. The approximately 5,000-square foot surgery center will feature two operating rooms and a procedure room and is expected to be complete June of 2021.
“The development of the Animas Surgery Center at Escalante is an exciting new chapter for Animas Surgical Hospital. Since we opened in 2004, our operating rooms have been at or near capacity,” said Joe Theine, Chief Executive Officer. “Expanding our services will help ensure that our patients have access to the specialized medical care they need – right here in Durango.”
The Animas Surgery Center at Escalante will be the only multispecialty ambulatory surgery center in Durango when it opens. Animas Surgical Hospital purchased the surgery center in January 2021 from a Michigan-based developer. “Our locally-owned hospital has been planning to expand for several years, and we view this as a great opportunity to grow our operating space and capabilities,” said Theine.
Animas Surgical Center at Escalante will be the third campus in the Animas Surgical Hospital organization; other sites include Animas Surgical Hospital at Rivergate and Animas Urgent Care, located on Camino del Rio. Animas Surgical Hospital employs approximately 160-165 employees across all of its campuses.
