Patients & Visitors
Animas Surgical Hospital is Durango’s premier medical facility, offering patient-focused, personalized care in an intimate environment. We deliver fast, convenient care with better outcomes and high rates of patient satisfaction. We’re proudly owned and operated by physicians who live and work in the Four Corners region and who are responsive to the healthcare needs of the community.
Visitors can relax in the comfort of a spacious waiting area and enjoy complimentary refreshments or take a scenic walk along the Durango Animas River Trail. Rivergate Pharmacy, located in the adjacent Rivergate Medical Campus, offers breakfast burritos, sandwiches, salads, and other items for purchase.
The hospital has five operating rooms for inpatient and outpatient surgery, 12 private inpatient rooms, an emergency department, diagnostic imaging, a laboratory, and a pharmacy. Animas Surgical Hospital also functions as the anchor for the attached Rivergate Medical Campus, which houses 18 private practices spanning 52 specialties and subspecialties.
Animas Surgical Hospital opened in December 2004 as Colorado’s first physician-owned hospital, with a focus on surgical care and diagnostic imaging. Named for the Animas River, which flows next to the hospital, Animas Surgical Hospital is just a mile (a five-minute drive) from downtown Durango.
Animas Urgent Care opened in 2014 across the river from Animas Surgical Hospital and provides fast, convenient care for minor injuries and illnesses. Occupational medicine is also housed in the urgent care facility.
