Animas Surgical Hospital is proud to welcome Dr. Matthew Iorio to our medical staff. Dr. Iorio is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon specializing in hand surgery, nerve reconstruction, and complex wound and extremity care.
Dr. Iorio joins the skilled team at Peak Rejuvenation, with over a decade of experience treating complex injuries and conditions that often require advanced surgical expertise. Using techniques such as targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR) and microsurgery, he has helped patients preserve limbs, restore function, and relieve chronic pain—often after being told amputation was their only option.
A Texas native who grew up in Phoenix, Dr. Iorio attended the University of Chicago and Georgetown University School of Medicine, later training at the University of Washington’s Harborview Medical Center. His career has included faculty appointments at Harvard Medical School and the University of Colorado, where he helped build nationally recognized programs in extremity reconstruction, wound care, and orthoplastic surgery.
Dr. Iorio has published more than 130 scientific articles and 24 textbook chapters, earning recognition as one of the top 0.5% of microsurgery scholars worldwide. His work has been honored with multiple Teacher of the Year Awards and the Hand Surgery Research All-Star Award.
When he’s not in the operating room, Dr. Iorio enjoys hiking, camping, and exploring the Four Corners region. He says Durango is the perfect place to combine his professional expertise with his love for the outdoors.
“My goal is to provide world-class surgical care in a community setting,” said Dr. Iorio. “I want every patient to feel heard, cared for, and supported through every step of their journey.”
Dr. Iorio is now accepting patients at Peak Rejuvenation. For more information or to schedule an appointment, visit www.peakrejuvenation.com.
