- BIO:
Matt Iorio, MD is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Peak Rejuvenation. He specializes in hand surgery, nerve reconstruction, and complex wound and extremity care. He has more than a decade of experience treating patients with severe injuries, chronic pain, and complex conditions—often helping restore function, preserve limbs, and improve quality of life when other treatment options were limited.
A Texas native who grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, Dr. Iorio attended college at the University of Chicago before earning his medical degree through Georgetown University and the University of Washington’s Harborview Medical Center. He later served on the faculty at Harvard Medical School and subsequently joined the University of Colorado, where he helped build nationally recognized programs in extremity reconstruction, wound care, and orthoplastic surgery.
Dr. Iorio is board certified in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Surgery of the Hand. Throughout his career, he has cared for patients with complex trauma, nerve injuries, and limb-threatening conditions. Many were referred to him after being told amputation was their only option. Using advanced techniques such as targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR) and complex microsurgery, Dr. Iorio has helped patients preserve limb function, reduce phantom limb pain, and return to meaningful daily activities.
An internationally recognized expert in his field, Dr. Iorio has authored more than 130 peer-reviewed scientific articles and 24 textbook chapters. His work has earned numerous honors, including multiple Teacher of the Year Awards, the Hand Surgery Research All-Star Award, and recognition among the top 0.5% of microsurgery scholars worldwide. While research and innovation are important to him, Dr. Iorio is most driven by patient care—listening closely, solving complex problems, and partnering with patients to achieve their goals.
Dr. Iorio is also deeply committed to teaching and mentorship. He has directed microsurgical training programs, mentored medical students and residents, and lectured nationally and internationally on hand surgery and nerve reconstruction. Many of his former trainees have gone on to become leaders in the field.
Outside the operating room, Dr. Iorio enjoys spending time outdoors, including hiking, camping, and off-roading. He is excited to call Durango home, where he can combine his love of the outdoors with his mission to provide world-class surgical care in a community setting. His goal is simple: to ensure patients feel heard, supported, and confident in their care at every step of the journey.
