Q: When did the hospital open?
A: Animas Surgical Hospital opened in December 2004. Prior to that, the Animas Surgical Center served the community as a same day surgery center. The new surgical hospital is a fully licensed general hospital offering complete medical services including: emergency services, diagnostic imaging, and inpatient and outpatient surgery.
How is the hospital different from other facilities?
A. In addition to the finest surgeons and staff available, Animas Surgical Hospital seeks to create a unique health care experience. We offer a high nurse to patient ratio for the highest level of care. Our philosophy is that our patients and families are valued customers that deserve the best service and care. For example, we offer private suites that feature amenities such as flat screen televisions with satellite service, windows that open and overlook the Animas River with large, private bathrooms, stocked with plush towels, bathrobes and specialty bath products. Arrangements may be made for overnight guests to stay with patients.
Are surgical hospitals more expensive than traditional hospitals?
A. No. Surgical hospitals concentrate on a specific service. Because the services they provide are focused, surgical hospitals are able to provide superior and more efficient care at no additional cost to patients or insurance companies. In addition, Animas Surgical Hospital has made investments in technology, equipment, systems and people that enable us to achieve remarkable efficiencies in our delivery of quality patient care.
Is the hospital a "surgicenter"?
A. No. Animas Surgical Hospital is licensed by the State of Colorado as a general acute care hospital. The hospital offers a full range of both inpatient and outpatient surgical services along with diagnostic imaging and emergency care. A surgicenter is a same day surgical facility and is not a general hospital.
Are patients limited to a 72-hour hospital stay?
A. No. There is no limitation on a patient's length of stay. You and your physician will determine the best recovery time frame for you.
What kind of insurance does the hospital accept?
A. Animas Surgical Hospital accepts many forms of insurance payment including Medicare, Medicaid, private commercial insurance (HMO and PPO plans) and Workers' Compensation. View a list of insurance providers we accept.
Do I have to share a room with another patient?
A. No. All of the inpatient suites are private and can accommodate an overnight guest for the patient’s support.
What if I need an MRI or CT Scan?
A. These types of services are conveniently provided in the Diagnostic Imaging Center in the hospital along with ultra sound and computed radiography.
Which physicians will be practicing at the hospital?
A. Animas Surgical Hospital’s medical staff includes a comprehensive list of specialties and sub-specialties. View a list of staff physicians.
What is the nurse to patient ratio?
A. The hospital offers a high nurse to patient ratio of 1:3—unheard of in the industry! The high nurse to patient ratio allows for superior personalized care.
